Planning and Zoning Commission (2019–2023)
Arlene was born and raised in Bolton, where her family has lived for four generations and still farms on Birch Mountain. They are best remembered for their family restaurant, Fiano’s, which is now Georgina’s.
A member of Bolton’s Planning and Zoning Commission since 2003, Arlene is seeking her fourth term. While on P&Z she has been active in the Route 44 Strategic Corridor Plan, the Route 6 Hop River Corridor Study, P&Z’s Architectural and Site Design Guidelines, the Bolton Center Study, and the 2005 and 2015 Plans of Conservation and Development
Arlene has been a member of the Bolton Heritage Farm Commission since 2007 and serves as Vice Chair. Since 2011, when the Board of Selectmen designated the first Heritage Farm Week, she has co-chaired this yearly event, created to showcase the farm at the center of town. The Heritage Farm Commission ,working with the BOS, has undertaken architectural, environmental, and historic studies of the site, raised funds, received grants, overseen projects to preserve and protect the farm, and identified potential uses, and created a plan for the future of Heritage Farm.
Arlene is a past member of the Bolton Women’s Club and served two terms as Co-president.
She has an associate’s degree in science from Manchester Community College and a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture from the University of Connecticut. A former employee of Cropley’s Garden Center, she now has her own design business. She spent ten years with the bus companies that serve the Bolton School System, working with the school administration on transportation routes as well as driving. She was a longtime friend and employee of Adelma Simmons, working at Caprilands until Adelma’s death.
Arlene strongly believes in giving back to her community and spends most of her free time with her family and friends. You can always find her in her garden.
